It’s hot here!
It’s hot, but at least the sky is blue and the grass is green, unlike my previous visit.

Where’s Nicolas Cage?
Cranky knee and all, we set out today to see some stuff. First stop, the National Portrait Gallery. Should have checked the opening hours as we were 2 1/2 hours early! So Yvette and I walked down to the National Archives instead to see how Nicolas Cage stole the Declaration of Independence. I guess we were lucky as Danielle told us the line into the rotunda to see the Declaration, Constitution, and Bill of Rights can be really long. Very cool to see the documents in person, but they are quite faded and with the low light, impossible to read. Good thing for John Hancock that he had a big signature! I guess walking through the exhibit about Top Secret documents was well timed with the current news of the day…
After a really great lunch at the Old Ebbitt Grill (est. 1856), a short walk through the Museum of American History and a meet up with the kids (Danielle & Nick), our museum day was done. Back to their place to ice the knee, get out of the heat, play some games and then go to have some excellent Ethiopian food, which apparently is common in DC.

Museum Scoreboard:
National Archives - Definite must see, though we really just had time for the big 3 documents: Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights.
Museum of American History - A casual museum with American cultural type exhibits. Not a staunchly, serious place but some interesting and amusing stuff. I had to explain the classic Julia Child SNL sketch (it was SNL right?) to Nick and Danielle as were walking the Food exhibition which included Julia Child’s actual kitchen. They had my Mom’s olive green crock pot there! Sorry no photo
