HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN!

BE PREPARED

Ok, we tried the Mirador Cuerno trail again. It was open and without wind, but, we had to put on the gear and walk in the rain.  Normally this would be a 90 minute round trip walk to a beautiful lookout over the blue green lake water at the base of the massif. And luckily it wasn’t a pouring rain, but it was steady and the round trip was closer to three hours.

SALTO GRANDE WATERFALL

The short hike starts out at the Salto Grande Waterfall. I admit it, I’m a sucker for a waterfall. Must be all those childhood trips to Yosemite.

It’s pretty amazing how the lake water remains a beautiful color, even with gray skies, because it is filled with glacier water. I just didn’t have it in me though to pull out the Canon in the rain. And, the low clouds took away the big views of the peaks that were right in front of us. Bonus, the new camera backpack had a rain cover that worked pretty well!

Good thing we brought rain pants, but my favorite REI rain jacket is more suited to modest rain and not 3 hours with a backpack on. Legs stayed dry, upper body mostly dry except around the shoulder straps. The problem with walking in the rain on a trail is that your head is down and you miss half of the terrain while avoiding mud and puddles

Still a fun day!

And a good one for an Irish Coffee!
