EUROPE & DC '23 • Day 25: London, UK

OLD FRIENDS

I can’t resist an old cemetery - South Hampstead area

COLUMBIA ROAD FLOWER MARKET

We scrapped the idea of going to the Tate this morning so we had enough time to visit the Columbia Road flower market and grab some coffee before heading to South Hempstead to visit some more SJSU I-Center friends. Sarah does seem to know all the cool markets and coffee places in the area, that's for sure. It's a busy Sunday market we could walk to from her flat. So many people walking away with big bundles of flowers. And compared to home, house plants are actually reasonably priced. Sometimes I have to do a double take at how expensive house plants can be at home. All for the privilege of trying to keep them alive.

MORE SJSU FRIENDS

This time we were meeting Felipe & Yoriko, who both lived in the SJSU I-Center at the same time as Yvette and me. Felipe is from Spain and Yoriko from Japan. Needless to say, they are another marriage from the house's alumni. My first big international trip after college was to Japan and I stayed at Yoriko's family home in Chiba. Her uncle even went with us (Felipe, Yoriko and myself) on our hike to the top of Mt. Fuji.

They've been living in London for many years and also have kids that are scattered around the globe. After a nice pub lunch, we walked around the Hampstead neighborhood where many famous people have lived over the years; Freud, Marx to name a couple. Then we had a nice couple hours to visit at their home and to watch the Arsenal v. Tottenham match. 2-2 draw, even though Arsenal scored on an OG and penalty kick from a handball in the box.

BRAT'S

Brat's, yet another trendy and excellent restaurant near Sarahs flat. Oh my, the mussels and bread were as good as I have ever had.
