TINY COUNTRY, BIG MOUNTAINS

NOT THE TYPICAL EUROPE TOURIST SPOT
It’s a good thing I experienced Oktoberfest with just Yvette. We had just enough beer, but not too much. Getting up was no problem this morning and no hangover in sight. So 18 hours after arriving in Munich, we did Oktoberfest and scrammed outta there to leave all the over drinking to the people in their rented (some owned) lederhosen! We did have fun though.
Today was the last long drive (but short enough to not require stopping to eat) of the trip, from Munich to the Vaduz Municipality in Liechtenstein. The Hotel Lowen is very cute, the older part of the building going back some 700 years. And, our host was super nice, in line with the reputation of people from Liechtenstein.
The town is quite small, but has this weird sort of upscale shopping that almost seems out of place. But Liechtenstein is so small I guess if there was to be upscale shopping to would have be in a small town.
After a short rest we walked through town and down to the Alte Rheinbrucke bridge. It's an old wooden covered bridge that crosses the river separating Liechtenstein from Switzerland. You can walk, or ride a bike, or a horse, through, no immigration or anything! I guess everyone takes a photo straddling 2 countries at the same time, we did. Tomorrow we plan on some hiking in the alps and found some promising areas to go from our awesome staff person at lunch.
Yvette found (well actually I found) her favorite Swiss chocolate (Cailler) in the Coop market as we headed back to the hotel. This means we won't have to go searching all over for it on our drive to the airport in Zurich. Yeah!
First impressions are all good. Duh, it's in the alps so obviously beautiful. And, after some bigger cities, it feels nice to be in a small town, even if just for a couple days. Surprisingly not burned out on travel after 3 weeks even though we’ve now been to 7 cities. But I am so tired of eating out ……..
