THE FOUNDING FATHER

MOUNT VERNON

In 1794, in regards to visitors at Mount Vernon, Washington wrote: "I have no objection to any sober or orderly person's gratifying their curiosity in viewing the buildings, Gardens, &ca. about Mount Vernon." (taken from the Wikipedia page referenced below)

The Cherry Tree?

We took a ride to Mount Vernon today to see George Washington's famous residence. The grounds are very nice but it is interesting how modest they are for someone of his stature later in life. Really, the view of the Potomac River is the nicest part of the property.

George & Martha Washington’s House @ Mount Vernon

Well into the 90s, it was damn hot today, so we really didn't have the energy to just sit and ponder what it must have been like 250 years ago.

SLOWING IT DOWN

This evening we had a great dinner at China Chicano, one of Danielle and Nick's favorite restaurants. Pisco Sours, ceviche and other fusion dishes. Home for some more board games and a good night's rest. Tomorrow we plan a do nothing (or at least very little) day. Danielle and Nick are working, we want to do laundry before heading to Europe on Wednesday, and after a few days of activities it's nice to take a break. I've started a new Calvino book (If On A Winter's Night A Traveler), so coffee and reading in the morning for sure.
