AROUND TOWN

Guess we’ve been really lucky with the weather here as the volcanoes are hiding behind the clouds this morning. We could have been here for 3 days and never even seen these spectacular mountains. The town of Puerto Varas is a lot like Tahoe City. Restaurants and souvenirs, a beach and activities like kayaking, boating and hiking. It seems both a stop for tourists on the way to Patagonia and a vacation spot for Chileans to get away from the city.

We didn’t plan any special activities today so just some mucking about. Some shopping and walking around town. Seemed to be a lucky spot for Steve and me on the shopping front. A couple new linen shirts and some ‘adventure’ pants (the kind that you can zip off the bottoms to make into shorts). Things seem a bit less expensive in general; food, wine, and stuff.
Casa Valdes for dinner and pretty average. Conveniently located very close to the hotel though. The waiter kind of phoned it in, and the food was decent but nothing special. And they were out of all their specialties like King Crab and Chilean Sea Bass. So far on the trip we’ve had many better, and less expensive meals.
We have to get a good night’s sleep as tomorrow is our early flight of the trip. We need to drop off the car and be at the gate before 6:30….ughhh
