WHERE”S THE MONEY?

SEARCHING FOR AN ATM
Chile Traveler Alert: Not all US ATM cards work on the machines in Chile. We spent a good hour or so trying to find an ATM that would work with our cards. And on Saturday morning, many banks are closed so our options were fewer to boot. Even large bank ATMs like Santander didn’t work. But we did eventually find one.
WALKING AROUND THE LATARRIA DISTRICT
We spent most of the day on the 2 hills that to get some views of the city.
Cerro Santa Lucia is the smaller of the 2 hills. It is primarily a public park and you can see just how large the the Santiago metropolitan area is from the top. It’s warm today, mid 80s, summertime in Chile, though Patagonia is still going to be chilly.
Cerro San Cristobal is much larger, and higher, and has a funicular and gondola to reach the top…..hey, we could have walked more but it was warm and we’ll be walking a lot on this trip, and we’re a little tired too. Seems like a nice hike when the weather is cooler.
BOCANARIZ
Try dinner at Bocanariz if you’re ever in the Lastarria district of Santiago and a short walk from the hotel. It has an extensive wine offering so we tried some flights of Chilean wine, really different wines than what we commonly get at home and inexpensive too. Excellent dinner and cool vibe. Thumbs up!
Another flight tomorrow to Puerto Montt, and a drive to Puerto Varas for a couple days.
